Filipino Web Designer: Crafting results-driven, Interactive Websites

I started in 2010, and most of the web industry I grew up in here is built by developers, not designers. The usual approach is to install a theme, swap in the logo and launch. The sites work, but they look like thousands of others, and they don't compete with the overseas studios doing high-end work.

I chose to lead with design: typography, layout, art direction and motion, held to the standard of the best international studios. The CSS Design Awards for UX, UI and Innovation show that it holds up. Then I build every site myself, so nothing gets lost between the design and the live website.

I build everything from scratch instead of reaching for the platform everyone else uses. That means your site loads faster, moves between pages without reloading, and is harder to break. Working with clients across time zones and cultures also taught me to communicate clearly and keep projects organized, which matters as much as the design.

The best websites don't choose between looking good and working well. They do both, and that's what makes people remember a brand.

Most websites fall into one of two traps.

• Forgettable: The site works, but nobody remembers it. It's so focused on basic function that it never makes an impression.
• The "Awwwards trap": Flashy, trend-driven sites built to show off the designer, with scroll-jacking, heavy animation and slow load times. They can win attention in a portfolio, but they rarely help a business, because the goal of a business website is conversion: more emails, more bookings, more sales.

I aim for the space between. A site should feel alive without getting in the way. Every animation should either tell your story or guide someone toward buying from you. My test is simple: if someone has to think about how to use your website, I haven't done my job. And because what I think works and what actually works are sometimes different, I test.

I build custom websites for businesses that have outgrown a template. Most of my clients come from Squarespace, Wix or WordPress. Their site no longer matches the quality of their business, and it isn't bringing in enquiries.

• Rattan Luxe (United Kingdom): A new garden furniture brand launched on a custom ecommerce store. It took £289k in its first season from Google Ads traffic, at a 10x return on ad spend. Read the Rattan Luxe case study.

• Century 21 Pura Vida (real estate): The original site lacked the premium feel and usability the client wanted. I kept its core elements, rebuilt the homepage and above-the-fold area, and designed a minimal property search.
