Gather Privacy Policy

This policy covers the Gather Chrome extension. Visiting this website is covered separately by the website privacy policy.

Gather: Video & Asset Downloader is a Chrome extension by Dixie Raiz Pacheco. It helps you find, preview and download accessible files from a website page you choose.

Information Gather handles

When you invoke Gather on a page, it processes that page's address and title, asset URLs, filenames, file types, dimensions, preview images and related media metadata. The scanner examines page elements, resource records and relevant embedded JSON to find files. It does not store a complete copy of the page or record form input.

When you enable Find playing media, Gather processes resource URLs and file-type information for the tab where you enabled listening. It reads the response Content-Type header to classify media. It does not retain request or response headers, cookies, or response bodies.

Gather also handles the preferences you choose and the IDs of downloads it starts. To show download progress and history, it reads the corresponding download records from Chrome, including filename, source URL, completion state, size and errors.

Website URLs, filenames and media may themselves contain personal information or signed access tokens. Gather preserves original asset URLs so they continue to work. It does not use that information to identify or profile you.

How information is used

Gather uses this information to show available assets, filter and preview them, validate your selected downloads, save files and show their status. Preferences control appearance and whether individual downloads ask you for a save location.

There is no Gather login, analytics service, advertising tracker or developer-operated upload service in the extension. The extension does not send scan results, browsing records or download history to its developer.

Local storage and retention

Temporary scan records are held in Chrome's extension session storage. Gather limits these records to 20 recent tabs, with up to 1,500 merged assets per tab and up to 500 captured network asset records per tab. Older records can be removed earlier to stay within storage limits.

Navigating a source tab clears its previous asset results. Closing the tab removes its record. Session storage is temporary and is cleared when the browser session ends or Chrome clears the extension's session data.

Appearance and save-location preferences persist in local extension storage. Gather also retains at most 250 download IDs locally. It looks up their associated details in Chrome when displaying download history. It does not copy the browser's entire download history into extension storage.

Downloaded files and Chrome's own download history are separate from Gather's extension storage. They remain until you remove them using your operating system or Chrome controls.

Connections to websites and media hosts

Scanning is performed on your device. Displaying gallery thumbnails, opening media previews, opening a source link, opening a Pinterest pin and downloading a file can make requests directly to the relevant website or its media/CDN hosts.

Those hosts receive the information ordinarily involved in a browser request, such as your IP address, requested URL and applicable browser request details. Browser-managed credentials may be sent according to Chrome's rules. Gather does not extract your cookies or passwords. These direct requests are necessary to display or retrieve the files you choose, and are subject to the receiving websites' own policies.

Gather can work with HTTP as well as HTTPS asset addresses. A website's HTTP resources do not gain encryption through Gather. The extension preserves source addresses rather than routing content through a third-party proxy.

Permissions and your choices

Regular scanning uses temporary access to the tab where you invoke Gather. Optional website access is requested when you use the Pinterest link tool or enable Find playing media. The media-listening feature is off by default. It records results only for the tab where you explicitly enable it, stops when you close that tab or navigate to another origin, and can be stopped manually.

You can remove optional grants using Remove additional website access in Gather's settings or Chrome's extension controls. Removing access stops capture and clears captured network records when the required access is no longer available. Previously scanned asset results can remain until navigation, tab closure or session clearing.

To remove persisted preferences and Gather's stored download IDs, uninstall the extension through Chrome. Uninstalling Gather does not delete downloaded files or Chrome's own download history. Manage those separately in Chrome and your file system.

Sharing and limited use

Gather does not sell user data, use it for personalised advertising, or use it for creditworthiness or lending decisions. User information is used only to provide the asset-discovery, preview and downloading features described here. Original websites and media hosts receive the direct browser requests needed for these features, as explained above.

Gather's use of information received through Chrome and Google APIs adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements.
